First mention of in game adverts

Back on the 31 August, BF2142 Central reported:

Digital Illusions and EA will bring in-game advertising into Digital Illusions’ next PC title Battlefield 2142

EA has signed an agreement with IGA to bring in-game dynamic advertising to selected titles in a move to provide cross platform in-game ad solutions for global advertisers. The initial title to incorporate dynamic advertising will be Battlefield 2142 when it launches in October.

Through the agreement, fans of the franchise will see new, realistic brand presence integrated into contextually relevant game environments. Digital Illusions is entitled to a share of all the revenues generated from the advertising featured in Battlefield 2142. "

Dodge Neon adverts are "contextually relevent" in 2142? Hmm...

Spyware in BF2142

So this is a blog I've created to help people follow the current debate about EA/DICE's inclusion of advertising in the next version of their popular Battlefield series - BF2142.

Set in a futuristic environment, the programme uses in game advertising hoardings to display present-day products, such as cars.

There are two reasons for me suggesting boycotting buying the game
1) The inclusion of adverts hasn't resulted in any benefit to the user, such as reduced or free product pricing
2) The software doesn't allow you to protect your privacy and disable the ad measures.

Hopefully, by the time I finish writing this blog, some of the above will have changed.
